It’s not the time in your life, it’s the life in your time. ~Bruce Springsteen
Hello!
Chelsea and I are happily at work diligently preparing for the upcoming season, making lists (checking twice) and assisting our guests with reservations. We enjoy this time of year (well, not tax season). We’ve found that many of our guests return annually to the Blue Hill area, some since childhood, who now bring their kids, and some who come home to visit family and old friends. Sometimes we hear “We’ve always wanted to visit Maine, and this is finally the year!”
While it goes without saying that July and August are prime times to visit, we want to remind folks that June’s and September’s weather tends to be quite lovely as well; the seasonal businesses are open but there are fewer visitors. We love the June blossoms – forsythia, lilacs, lupine, daisies and buttercups – it’s a colorful and fragrant month!
In September we enjoy warm, but not muggy, days and cooler, perfect for sleeping, nights.
For someone who has lived here my whole life (and I’m no spring chicken), June and September weather is the way July and August weather used to be. There’d be about three days in August that were uncomfortably hot and muggy, and mom would take us swimming every day, or we’d have the hose sprinkler on running around in our bathing suits, and then it would be over. Air conditioning was unnecessary.
Now AC is a must-have and guests expect it (and we can’t blame them).
So, for visitors who might find yourselves disappointed that your July or August dates are not available, we encourage you to look at June and September – we think you won’t be disappointed!
