CLEAN TALK…. Or, What’s It Like to Clean with Us…

“Housework can’t kill you, but why take the chance?” ~ Phyllis Diller

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to turn over rental properties between guests?  Well, we’re happy to tell you!

Making sure that the rental properties that Chelsea and I manage are as squeaky clean as possible isn’t just our goal, it’s mandatory in this business, and while we do a lot of cleaning ourselves, we need help, especially on weekends during the summer season. We may have eight turnovers in a day, and because of this, and the fact that it is weekend work (between 10am and usually about 2pm), we make sure we pay our cleaners well.

We’ve been fortunate to work with excellent people, most of whom are our friends wanting to make extra money during the summer without a big time commitment. We supply everything and, while it is serious work, it’s also low key and usually stress free, with lots of good humor (because that’s how Chelsea and I like to roll).

Making sure our guests arrive to clean, well-stocked and desirable rental properties is one of the most important and rewarding parts of our business and goes a long way to receiving 5-star ratings on the internet (which is unfortunately really important). It’s serious business but we have lots of fun doing it (even when we’re stressed out and worried we won’t get everything done by the 4pm arrivals!)

The difference between residential cleaning and turnover cleaning is that, when cleaning in someone’s home, there tends to be a lot more stuff laying around that must be cleaned around.  The rental properties are set up for guests, so there is purposefully no clutter, and cleaning goes faster. Chelsea and I like to listen to audiobooks while we clean, and we find ourselves looking forward to that time, especially when we are listening to a really good book.

People who are naturally detail oriented, organized, and energetic excel with turnover cleaning. It’s a nice feeling of accomplishment when we go back through each room, double-checking that everything looks as perfect as possible (and we haven’t forgotten anything). We leave with a sense of accomplishment.

And, when our cleaners are done, we pay them right then and there, usually through Venmo.  Yes, we do have to 1099 so that we don’t get in trouble with the IRS, but we’ll all be happy we paid our Social Security and Medicare taxes when we get older (at least that’s what we’re telling ourselves).

So, if you’d like to have some cleaning fun with us this summer, let us know! It’s a good way to make some significant money, and it will keep you limber as well!
