Harcourts Waterfront & Fine Properties – Blue Hill, Maine

Real life, real estate, and real connections along the coast of Maine

Real Estate, Real People, Real Maine

How home, hospitality, and community all come together on the Blue Hill Peninsula

At The Downeast Team—Brenda and Chelsea Horton and Sara Leighton—we get to live and work in a place we truly love. Between our work with Harcourts Waterfront & Fine Properties and our rental company, Blue Hill Bay Property Rentals, our days are a blend of helping people find their next chapter, welcoming guests to the coast of Maine, and soaking up the simple, good things about living here year-round.

We bring the same enthusiasm and joy into everything we do—whether it’s managing a cozy waterfront cabin, guiding a buyer to “the one,” or helping a seller move on to what’s next.

Life Between Listings and Low Tide

Family, gardens, chickens, and a small business by the bay

Chelsea and I co-own Blue Hill Bay Property Rentals in Blue Hill, Maine. We manage a variety of properties, offering five-star service and support to both our owners and our guests. That side of our work keeps us closely connected to how people live in and experience this area, not just how it looks on a listing sheet.

There are still excellent rental properties available in the prime weeks of summer. Check these out – both new to the rental market, both on water and perfect for families.

When we’re not working, we’re very much a family with young-kids operation. We love spending time together, working on our own properties, and getting our hands in the dirt whenever we get a chance. In the warmer months, you’ll find us in the garden, and when ready, we’re the people who enjoy the challenge of freezing and canning vegetables to enjoy throughout the winter.

We raise chickens for eggs and a good laugh—their personalities are a show of their own—and we include our dogs in just about everything we do. That mix of family, animals, and land is a big part of why we love our homes.

We’re also involved in local government and community life. Sara has been in the real estate business for close to 30 years, is a Senior VP with Harcourts Waterfront & Fine Properties, serves as a Selectman in her town, and is on various boards and committees. She loves spending time with her large family and, like Brenda and Chelsea, has deep roots in the area.

All of that—family, rentals, sales, community work—feeds into how we show up for our clients.

Blue Hill – Where Maine Still Feels Like Maine

Quiet beauty, a strong local heartbeat, and room to breathe

Blue Hill and the Blue Hill Peninsula are really at the heart of everything we do.

Blue Hill feels like the kind of coastal town people picture when they think about Maine—quietly beautiful, deeply rooted, and a little bit understated in the best way.

It sits along Blue Hill Bay, with long views of open water, working harbors, and Blue Hill Mountain watching overall. The landscape has a gentler feel than the more rugged, dramatic stretches of Downeast, but it’s just as compelling, especially at sunrise or when the light settles at the end of the day.

What really defines Blue Hill is its balance. It’s a true four-season community with a strong local heartbeat—artists, boatbuilders, musicians, and entrepreneurs who live and work here year-round. Places like Kneisel Hall, The Bagaduce Music Lending Library, and Blue Hill Heritage Trust speak to the town’s creative and conservation-minded culture.

The village itself is small but vibrant, with an authentic mix of locally owned shops, galleries, and restaurants—not overly commercialized, but still offering a refined, quietly sophisticated lifestyle. You’ll also find Northern Light Blue Hill Hospital right in town, which is part of what makes it feel livable year-round rather than just seasonal.

From a lifestyle perspective, Blue Hill appeals to people who want coastal Maine without the crowds—boating, sailing, hiking, and access to nearby gems like Acadia National Park, but with a slower, more grounded pace of life.

It’s not flashy. It doesn’t try to be. And that’s exactly the point—Blue Hill is where you go when you want authenticity, natural beauty, and a sense of place that still feels intact.

A Steady Coastal Market with Enduring Demand

What we’re seeing right now in Blue Hill and the Peninsula

You might see that our area being reported as more of a seller’s market — but if you’re living here or watching this area closely, you know the real story is different.

This is also a window of opportunity for buyers who’ve been waiting on the sidelines. And for sellers — pricing and presentation matter more than ever.

The data doesn’t always reflect what’s happening at the local level. That’s why local knowledge matters.

Whether you’re looking to buy or sell in this area, having a trusted local expert in your corner makes all the difference. At Harcourts Waterfront & Fine Properties, we combine over a century of proud global heritage with a forward-focused commitment to delivering the highest levels of personal and professional service — and the best possible results for our clients.

How we’re helping people navigate this market:

  • For sellers, we’re focused on:
    • Pricing strategically so your home stands out without leaving money on the table
    • Presenting properties in a way that tells the story of the home and the lifestyle it offers
    • Leveraging both local networks and broader marketing to reach the right buyers
  • For buyers, we’re:
    • Keeping a close eye on new and upcoming listings, including those that may be quietly available
    • Helping you understand value in the context of this specific area, not just online estimates
    • Guiding you through inspections, negotiations, and the nuances of waterfront, seasonal, or rural properties

If you’re curious what these trends mean for your specific home—or for the kind of place you’d like to buy—we’re happy to talk through it in plain language, highlighting why partnering with Harcourts can benefit your specific needs.
